Frequently Asked Questions

Vault is a native iOS trading journal for active traders. Log trades manually or scan brokerage screenshots with on-device OCR, track your P&L on a color-coded calendar, tag trades with behavioral patterns, and export your history to CSV. Everything runs offline on your device — no accounts, no cloud, no subscriptions.
No. All trade data is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. Vault makes zero network calls. Your screenshots are processed entirely on-device using Apple Vision and are never uploaded anywhere. If you delete the app, your data is permanently removed.
Vault includes optimized parsers for Robinhood, Webull, Charles Schwab, Fidelity, and E*TRADE / Morgan Stanley. There is also a generic fallback parser that works with most other brokerages that display a standard fill confirmation. You can select your brokerage manually or let the app auto-detect it from the screenshot text.
The scanner uses Apple's Vision framework (VNRecognizeTextRequest) to extract text from your screenshot, then runs it through brokerage-specific parsing rules to identify the ticker, direction, price, and quantity. All processing happens on-device — the image never leaves your phone. After scanning, you review the extracted values in the trade entry form before saving.
Vault is designed for equities and ETFs. You can manually enter any trade with a ticker symbol, entry/exit prices, and quantity — so it can work for other instruments in practice. However, the OCR scanner is optimized for US stock brokerage confirmations, and there is currently no options chain or contract-specific tracking.
In the Trade History tab, tap the share icon in the top-right corner. Vault generates a CSV file containing all your filtered trades (or all trades if no filter is active) and opens the iOS share sheet. You can send it via AirDrop, email, save to Files, or open directly in Excel or Google Sheets. The CSV includes date, ticker, direction, entry/exit prices, quantity, P&L, tags, and notes.
No. Vault is a one-time purchase with no subscriptions, no in-app purchases, and no ads. All features are included.
Your trade data is included in your standard iPhone backup (iCloud backup or local Mac/PC backup via Finder or iTunes). If you restore your phone from a backup, your Vault data will be restored with it. You can also export your trades to CSV at any time as a manual backup of your records.

Common Issues

1

Scanner says "No data found"

Make sure the screenshot shows a fill confirmation or order summary — not a watchlist or portfolio screen. The scanner looks for specific patterns like ticker symbols, prices, and quantity fields. Try selecting your brokerage manually instead of Auto-Detect. Ensure the image is clear and not cropped too tightly.

2

Scanner extracted the wrong price or quantity

OCR can occasionally misread numbers, especially on low-resolution screenshots or screens with complex layouts. After scanning, you always have the chance to review and correct values in the trade entry form before saving. Try rescanning with a clearer screenshot if the results are consistently off.

3

Camera permission denied

Vault needs camera access only for the screenshot scanner. Go to Settings → Vault → Camera and toggle it on. Photo Library access is managed separately through the system photo picker and does not require a persistent permission grant.

4

Trades not showing on the calendar

The calendar shows trades based on their trade date, not the date they were logged. If you log a trade today but set the date to last week, it will appear on last week's calendar cell. Navigate to the correct month using the arrow buttons to find your trade.

5

CSV export is empty or missing trades

The export respects your current filters. If you have a search term or direction filter active in the Trade History tab, only matching trades will be exported. Clear all filters before exporting to include your complete trade history.
